We started off the day with a trip to Starbucks. I had my favorite peppermint mocha and Daniel had a chai tea latte and then we headed to the Subway. Daniel has been great at navigating the Subway system here, I would be totally lost without him. This ol' country girl can't figure out what's downtown vs. uptown or B track vs. C, D,E track. Anyways, with Daniel's expertise we went to Lower Manhattan today. Our first stop was South Street Seaport. It is a cute little market area at the seaport with nice shops and farmer's markets:
As luck would have it, we were there on the day of the Autism Speaks Walk. There were thousands of people getting geared up for the walk. Thankfully, they started the walk shortly after we arrived and the streets cleared out:
We left the seaport and walked several blocks to the Financial District. Daniel was really excited about this area. We saw Wall Street and the NY Stock Exchange:
We searched for this bull for a good 30 minutes. We found a map and realized we had been making a full circle around it the entire time! After the Financial District we walked to Battery Park. We have both been to the Statue of Liberty before, so we decided just to take pictures from across the river rather than going there:
For Jayne:
We went to Ground Zero:
Here is the memorial they are building (I think):
After the Ground Zero we were really hungry. We walked for over an hour and a half looking for a good place to eat. We couldn't find much so we decided to head back to our hotel and eat near midtown. We searched for a subway for a long time and FINALLY found one. Our feet were so tired. We made it back and ended up eating Chinese food at Chef Yu NYC. It was only one block up from our hotel (even though we walked 8 blocks to find it and had to turn around). It was great:
Daniel had Miso soup and Sliced Chicken with Eggplant:
I had Spring Rolls and Sweet and Sour Chicken:
We loved our food. It tasted so fresh and definitely hit the spot. After "lunch" (at 4 p.m.) we went back to the hotel for a quick power nap. We ended the night by going to a movie. The theater is right by our hotel! We saw Kung Fu Panda 2. Our theater was 4 stories up!!! It was a great ending to a great day:
Tomorrow we are going to Rockefeller Center and Times Square. Looking forward to a great day! By the way, the high temp. today was 70 degrees!!!
